The Picture Person program was established in 1972 at our predecessor, Lakeview Museum of Arts & Sciences, with a goal to bring works of fine art into the lives of school children across Central Illinois. Since then, hundreds of volunteers have taught in classrooms, giving presentations and leading corresponding activities using high quality reproductions of famous works of art. This program successfully exposed local children into the world of fine art through engaging and hands-on experiences.
Our program has adapted to today's world and no longer requires the use of physical kits. Using modern technology and resources, teachers, parents, and caregivers have access to high resolution images, videos, and virtual tours of not only the greatest works of art, but hundreds of thousands of works of art in museums and private collections around the world.
Today, the Peoria Riverfront Museum encourages every person to engage in being a picture person by learning about and teaching art to young people.
